That’s Impossible. Really?
Have you ever expressed an idea that you had to someone only to have them come back with “that’s impossible”? Worse yet, have you ever told someone that what they were proposing was impossible? Think about it; the Wright Brothers made history in 1933 when they successfully flew the world’s first powered aircraft over Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. I bet plenty of people told them such a feat was impossible.
How about Thomas Edison? The guy was awarded 1093 patents in the USA alone, and one of his most notable developments was the first commercial electric light bulb. No doubt he had some naysayers. But he was also a pessimist. Yep, Edison predicted that Tesla’s patent on alternating current was a waste of time. He was wrong.
And then, of course, there is putting a man on the moon. In the 1920s, Lee De Forest said this about space travel, “I am bold enough to say that such a man-made voyage will never occur regardless of all future advances.” And the New York Times concurred by stating: “A rocket will never be able to leave the Earth’s atmosphere.” Then low and behold, in 1961, the Russians put the first human into space, followed by Apollo 11 in 1969.
Be Brave
Look, folks, if it weren’t for the brave, crazy, and industrious among us, a lot of amazing things might not have happened. Unlimited vision with a splash of absolute certainty goes a long way, reminding me of a cute story. A first-grade teacher handed out crayons and paper to her students and told them they could draw anything they wanted to. So the youngsters got to work, and diligently created trees, animals, and buildings, and then the teacher approached Emery and asked, “Emery, what are you drawing?” Emery replied, without hesitation or looking up, “I am drawing God.” The teacher said, “Emery, no one knows what God looks like.” And Emery said, “Well, they will in a minute!”
Don’t be a naysayer. There is no honor or inspiration in holding that position. And a lot of times, there is no truth in it either. Be Emery. Dream, create and do the impossible. Please don’t listen to people who say you can’t do it. What do they know?
